BMW X5 Front Brake Pads and Discs Replacement in Hurstville

The owner of this 2013 BMW X5 xDrive30d contacted BMSense after a red brake warning appeared on the dashboard. They were looking for an alternative to dealership pricing and had been recommended to BMSense.

I provided a written quotation and called the customer to discuss it and answer any questions. I explained that the front brake pads and wear sensor would likely need replacing. The brake discs might also need replacing, depending on their thickness and the condition of the braking surface.

I arranged to have all the front brake parts available for the appointment so there would be no delay waiting for parts or repeat visits.

I attended the customer’s home in Hurstville on the weekend. With the customer present, I raised the vehicle and removed the wheel. I explained how the brake pads and discs work together and showed them the worn parts.

The front brake pads were very low and had worn through the brake wear sensor, which had triggered the warning on the dashboard.

I then measured the brake disc thickness. The measurement was 27.9mm, below the minimum thickness of 28.4mm stamped on the disc, so the discs needed replacing. I showed the customer the measurement and the minimum thickness stamp so they could see why replacement was needed.

The customer was happy to proceed with replacing the front brake pads, discs and wear sensor. Before fitting the new parts, I showed them the genuine BMW parts being used.

Once the brakes were replaced, I connected the diagnostic equipment and reset the front brake service indicator. Final checks were carried out and the brake warning was no longer showing on the dashboard.

2019 MINI Cooper S Battery Replacement and Registration in Annandale

New and removed batteries for a 2019 MINI Cooper S battery replacement in Annandale.

The customer contacted BMSense early on a weekday morning because her 2019 MINI Cooper S would not start and multiple warnings were appearing on the dashboard. She wanted to get the MINI back on the road as soon as possible.

I asked a few questions, including whether a battery warning was showing and whether she could hear a clicking noise when trying to start the MINI. She confirmed both.

I explained that a faulty battery seemed likely, but I would need to inspect the MINI before confirming what was required. The other warnings could also be related to the battery.

On this occasion, I was able to collect the battery and attend the customer’s apartment block in Annandale the same day.

Before replacing the battery, I connected a jump pack and the MINI started. I then carried out a diagnostic scan and Energy Diagnosis. The results indicated that the battery had aged and needed replacing, with several voltage supply faults also recorded.

I explained the results to the customer and advised that the first step was to replace the battery, then carry out the final checks once the power supply issue had been addressed.

The customer approved the replacement, so I fitted the new genuine battery and completed the battery registration using diagnostic software.

Final checks were carried out after the replacement. No faults returned during these checks and the warning messages were no longer appearing on the dashboard.

2016 MINI John Cooper Works Secure Vehicle Against Rolling Repair in Parramatta

MINI centre screen showing the instruction to secure the vehicle with the parking brake when stationary.

The customer contacted BMSense through WhatsApp with photos of the warnings on her 2016 MINI John Cooper Works (JCW). She said BMSense had been recommended while she was researching the fault. She was concerned about driving her MINI while the “Secure vehicle against rolling” warning kept appearing on the dashboard. The centre screen also advised securing the vehicle with the parking brake when stationary.

We discussed the warning and the proposed repair by phone before arranging the appointment.

I attended the customer’s apartment car park in Parramatta. Before starting the repair, I carried out a fault scan to confirm the stored faults and showed her the fault relating to the gear selector.

There were also undervoltage faults recorded, so I carried out an Energy Diagnosis at no charge. The results indicated that the battery had aged and needed replacing. I explained the findings, and the customer decided to have the gear selector repaired that visit and arrange the battery replacement separately.

I removed the gear selector, dismantled it and replaced the failed torsion spring inside. I then reassembled the selector and refitted it to the MINI, along with the trim removed to access it.

Once everything was back together, I cleared the fault memory. The “Secure vehicle against rolling” warning was no longer showing on the dashboard.

The customer asked me to return the following weekend for the battery replacement. This was arranged and completed.
